improper speed

My system tells me that I have an amd athlon xp 2200, but it says that it's running at 1.3 ghz and I think it's suppose to run at 1.8ghz. Which setting should in the bios to run the correct speed.

current setting
cpu speed: 1350mhz
cpu frequency multiple: 13.5
cpu external frequency: 100/33
memory frequency: auto

If my memory serves me correctly, it's suppost to be set at 133mhz FSB with 13.5 multiplier. I had a problem like this with a 2200. Turns out some jumpers on my motherboard were set to safe mode and it'll only allow itself to operate with 100mhz FSB, therefore a clock speed of 1350mhz.

but the computer hangs, if i put the original setting but change the multiple either really high or low its still reads 1.3ghz. Any other frequency does boot up.
 
The 13.5x133 is the correct setting for the XP2200. It does sound like you've got some issues regarding cooling, however. The multiplier is likely locked at 13.5, so adjusting it isn't going to do anything. You should check that the heatsink is installed correctly for starters. After that you may want to look into a better heatsink and some Arctic Silver thermal compound for a better cooling solution.
 
I've got the exact same problem, I just built a computer with an amd 2200 which normally has a running freq. of 1700-1800 and now that I have it in the pc that I just built its only seeing 1500 with a 1.3 freq. Were you able to come up with a solution to your problem?
 
I check the heatsink and the thermanl compound was totally gone. The local computer shop did not have the compound so I went ahead and bought a new heatsink and I put it on.

I still get the same problem, only works on 100/33.

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
 
you will need to have some thermal compound other wise you will have cooling issues! so you can't run the cpu at the required speed.
 
Did you clean off the old stuff first? Isopropyl alcohol works wonders. Secondly, make sure you only put a paper this coat of the thermal stuff on the CPU die only, not the entire CPU packaging.
