Is it possible for my computer to live again?

My first time posting here. Go easy on me folks I'm not very computer savvy.

I have this computer and (long story short) it doesn't work for me anymore. It's been sitting in my room for over 2 years now.

When it was working, I noticed the fan on it would start sounding really loud with a noise like how you might stick a paper slip in it while it was going and it'd make that buzzing noise. The sound would just keep increasing and I'd have to cut off the power because I would think it'd blow up. :x:

I noticed that every time I would turn my computer on and ignored the buzzing, after a while a blue screen would pop up and give me an odd notice and I'd have to shut the thing down. After a while of getting this error and not being able to use my computer anymore, my brother formatted my hard drive so that it has no os on it.

I took a windows xp cd from my girl friend and tried to install it by trying that boot from the cd thing, but oddly enough, I "still" get that blue error message even though the hard drive is clean.

My computer will not allow me to install an os on it because that blue error message will prevent me from ever completing it. Now I have gotten close to installing it, so I know it can be done. That blue screen just randomly pops up at anytime and isn't letting me.

Like I said, I'm not computer savvy, but I do know that my dad’s friend put my computer together so I think it just has used parts in it. It has I think 2 ram sticks on the mother board, a odd looking black fan attached to the mother board, a built in fan on top of where the mother board sits (the culprit of the loud noise) , a cd burner, cd drive and my hard drive.

Sorry if this is long, but I wanted to put every detail I could think of to give an idea of what might be wrong with it.

I have a strong feeling that I can use it again so that’s why I kept it.

Any help and all ideas are appreciated.
 
Start with the power supply's fan. If the fan is not working properly (which I am certain since it should not produce a noisy sound), it could cause heating of the motherboard ergo, you are seeing the error message to shut down.
 
I'll try looking in the fan then. Is there anything in specific I should look for (any common thing that could go wrong) or just try cleaning it as much as possible?
 
cleaning it is definately a thing to start with. What i would also do, is to try to give it a nudge. I have seen fans that have stopped working because of having like jumped out of their normal operating position.

Sad thing though is that whenever i have had to deal with noisy fans in my desktops, the ultimate solution was replacing them. Fans do wear out quite easily and unexpectedly...
 
The computer has been sitting unused for 2 years and we can all assume that the fan had accumulated a good amount of dirt. You can use a computer vacuum to clean it. Then try turning the pc on again. If it still noisy, it's time to get a new fan or new power supply. Good luck!
 
You have to format it properly by proper formatting styles. You have to perform Low Level Formatting. By this you HDD will be completely formatted and if this is not happening then you have to zero fill it, you can do all this task from bootable cd. I will suggest you download Hiren boot cd and use it to solve your problem.
 
Uh, that's getting a little bit crazy here, especially when it appears to be a cooling-relating problem.
