it should be easy to move files from drive to drive

After watching the smoke come off the board, I figured I should save for a new joint.
three months later I Got one, but it came with a pile of questions, like,
Can I throw three HDs in the box?
what specs should I check before I proceed? power supply? Fans VS Liquid Cooling? what the smell is SKU011 ?! and why does my computer want it?
Idunno... but I got this thing now and I want to make it mine, So I started with my personal knowledge base.

O.K., so now I try to rescue my old music files off the last thing I wasted (e-machine, yeah I said it! anyway...) and what I did was I connected the main drive of the "e", (40 G western digital wd400) as a secondary drive in my new system. I reset the jump switch and all, accessed the files and felt confident.
Wife watchin me like, "Damn, I didn't know you were smart, That's HOT!"
I'm like "yeah, I'm BatMan..." clickin the mouse non-chalant with too much style...
I expanded the folders and isolated my old files,
right click to select,
right click on edit ,
scroll down to move to folder, click.
new box opens I select the new home for my tunes on the target drive (Seagate Barracuda?)
Transfer animation says 118 minutes, files are flyin, I go cook dinner.
Come back, and after removing the old drive, I check my work.
None o' the songs play. YES!
is it my procedure? my set-up? my karma? guess I shouldn't have slept thru mainframe.
somebody help me, and hey, don't tell my wife I came cryin ta y'all, O.K.?
 
Does normal music play on the computer? Is the sound drivers for your motherboard installed properly? It doesn't sound as if the files have been corrupted.
 
the files are fine, I played the songs when I connected the drive, My main question now is can I install 3 hard drives? guess I'll just search and experiment. I'll post my findings.

I didnt instal it, nor have I ever inst. one, so how can I find the make and model?

since my last post I replaced my CD burner with the third drive of this system, the original drive of my emachine, and everything is fine.

The system is working perfectly, but it's unnecessarily cumbersome (like this phrase). I have a newer 40 G HD that I want to install in place of the 40 and the 20 working with my 80. I know there are simpler solutions for more storage but I have these drives right now, I can't see buying a new one yet.

I still would like to move the files to make this all work, until then I'll keep reading computer shopper and PC magazine, and of course the archives on this fine site. I have a 350 watt Power supply, Antec SL350.
can I pull my 3.5 and put my burner in it's place?
it's naptime for me but I'll be back to see what you guys had to say thanks 4 the help. don't tell my wife.

if your M/B is a standard IDE then yes, you just need to check the setting of the old device you're removeing (master or slave, set by a little plastic jumper on the back of the drive) so if the device your removing is set as slave, set your new device as slave or if the old device your removing is set as master, set your new device as master
 
bue tea fill! (evil grin) now I will have my seedy burner back and can then send this rarely used and obsolete 3.5 inch diskette drive to the graveyard (garage) where it will languish in unused misery next to my old encyclopedia set a big box of assorted wires and cables, and my tandy 3500 HA HA HA HA HA!!!! .
I think I can just do a simple system backup, then recover all the files to one drive, in fact the bakup is in progress.
any opinions?
BTW I figure since I'm kinda like, a fetal tech, not even baby tech yet
(damn I might even be slowjamz and glass of wine tech anyway...) the least I can do, since there won't be many problems here I can solve is to post the results of my own troubles, So... I'll post results.

Donkey, I want to thank you for all your attention, I DO appreciate you trying to help.
The problem is multi-layered,
My P.C. now has three drives in it.
my music files are scattered all over, all the drives.
Win med player lists 24,741 items
1581:32:32 play time
and 65.99 GB of music files.
That's because, almost every file is at least duplicated, some are triplicated
a bunch of them are five- and even, eight-plicated.
I spent hours, manually deleting songs, and didn't make a dent.
I don't know of any program that would help me clean my player of the copies. Any ideas?

Certain elements of windows don't act right, word takes three times to open
I thought that might mean registry problems...

next, I have enough space on my 80G to put All my files on that one drive, leaving my others to act as storage for my editing programs, which has been the plan all along

Can't u just use Windows search (even though it does suck terribly) for every song and then just delete all but 1 from the results window?

Do not use your windows folder, thats what I've found the drawback of this software but if you have some time, just go through the read me of this soft.

I didnt get you over here, what kind of malfunctioning you are talking about?

Transfer files and programs
It is the easiest thing just copy and paste but sometimes it depends, if you want to copy audio files from a CD and you are trying to just copy and paste the music. It somestimes just copy the shortcut. There you need using Windows Media Player..Use RIP function.
