Laptop Slammed. -Help please.

Hi, I own a Toshiba Satellite, it's less than two years old and it had been working flawlessly and 'was' in good condition. Yesterday someone slammed the screen shut (very hard)
and now I'm plagued with problems. The screen is actually fine, but the laptop's performance has dropped dramatically. I was wondering if someone could help me identify some possibilities.

Short story:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
-General Latency
-Long boot sequence
-Unresponsive programs
-HD light stays on
-Clicking noise
-Choppy audio
-CRC's and file errors
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I've run Disc error checking and ran Disc Keeper and C-Cleaner No problems were found, file fragmentation was minimal, and was reported that my hard drive was in good health. I have removed the hard drive, checked the connections and plugged it all back in, all to no effect.

Long story:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The first thing I noticed was corrupted Windows audio. Boot-up sounds, error sounds, alert sounds. Any sound coming from or related to Windows XP has become choppy, like it shudders. (Yes that’s right I reformatted and replaced Vista with XP) I later discovered that Youtube and other streaming media have choppy audio too. The one exception to this so far has been my own audio files. My music and voice recordings sound unaffected when played via any media player application, but still suffer from the increase in overall latency.

The next Thing I noticed was general latency. Everything has slowed down. Browsing files with Windows Explorer often freezes even when browsing small and few files. Back buttons and other navigation freezes for sometimes 10 seconds at a time (it is very intermittent) Scroll bars freeze and jump even on small notepad documents; same with manually expanding duologue boxes. Programs will become unresponsive for to 30 seconds at a time. Typing anywhere, ether online or in a document, will hand up after a few words
and then jump into place after a few seconds. -However I think it is worth noting that there is no mouse lag.

Booting up takes forever now. What once took only 7-12 passes on the Windows loading screen now
lasts a seeming eternity, I lose count after 40-something passes. When it finally boots into windows (and it does every time), it takes just as long for basic startup programs to load. This is a huge contrast to performance just days prior.

I'm not sure if my hard drive light is indicating anything unusual, but I am occasionally hearing a new uniform
mechanical clicking noise sometimes when I have an unresponsive file. When that happens I see the
light remain on until a particular process or files loads.

I also encountered my first file that displays a Cyclic Redundancy Check error. There have been several unspecific "Error reading files" type messages too.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Laptop is still usable, (I'm using it right now) but there are defiantly some problems after this grand slam incident and operation has become very frustrating. I'm hoping someone can give me some insight into these matters.

Thanks in advance, any words will be appreciated.
