LCD Query

Hi I have recently bought a 19" LCD monitor.. Its a samsung Syncmaster 920N
for some reason at the top and bottom of the monitor there seems to be a vry faint static effect which can only be seen with blacks and greys. you can only notice it if you go close up or maybe a bit when the screen goes black when loading a game or something. It can cover up to half the screen from bottom to top fading as it goes up.. Its not visible when you look at a normal distance as i have said. I was wondering if it is just this monitor that does that? i dont think i have seen it happen before, but then again i have not looked close at an LCD before.. I hope someone can tell me maybe what it is? or if its normal.. otherwise i will assume that its a problem and go get a new one.

It sounds like the early signs of it packing up. The chances are it will work for some time yet though.
Ours shows a big red patch in the bottom right after it has been on standby. Its been like this for ages. Other ones ive had have developed a faint image.

Well its brand new i bought it today.. its nothing like problems your saying but i dont know if it should be there its realy faint staticy and its faint when u go realy close.. i carnt see it breaking so soon.. if anyone else has any ideas i would like to hear them.. if its all negative then ill replace it tomorrow.

My Acer monitor produces wierd effects that is only visible when on a totally black screen like loading games, like loads of lines accross the screen, and they kind of move :\, maybe all this static stuff is just normal for LCD's?
 
have u tried changing the refresh rate? When I first set up my BenQ lcd, I could see faint waves or ripples moving diagonally across it, as if the image was on water. It wasn't something I noticed on black screens though; I would see it when i just sat there and looked at my desktop from some distance away. I figured out that putting the refresh rate setting at like 75 was causing it to do this. The optimal for it is 60, I believe. Refresh rate doesn't really mean much on an LCD but for some reason certain settings can cause it to behave erratically.

It was set to 60 and i put it up to 75 (its max rate) and it made it alot better.. its not perfect but the bigger the screens get the more you will suffer from static.. its bearly visible really close so it wont hurt me.. Thanks for the help guys
