Limewire ... slow downloads

This is really strange ... I've been using Limewire Pro for ages now and I could usually download at an average of 100KB/S (I got a 2MB line). Now then ... all of a sudden, my downloads will go no faster than 20KB/S, no matter how many hosts there are. I could have several files downloading, all going at the same speed but not over 20KB/S. Even my all uploads combined won't go over 20KB/S! I've searched though the settings and can't see why. It's the same story with any other P2P software too, but I've only tried Morpheus and Bearshare Lite. I've disabled Windows firewall but still to no avail. I do have an IPCop router/proxy/firewall so maybe something to do with that?

If you have a router, you will need to set up port forwarding to your machine (and give your computer a static address on the network).

Even my all uploads combined won't go over 20KB/S!

That sounds right, i have a 2 MBit line and i normally reach 20 KB/s upstream during daylight hours and at night/v early morning i can reach 30ish KB/s
 
I've set up port forwarding and everything else I can think of and they're all correct ... but I've been hearing that ISPs are limiting bandwidth on P2P software ... I'm with UKOnline and I can't find anything on their website that states this but it seems very strange that one minute, I'm downloading at rocket speed and then instantly, for no apparent reason, down to a crawl:confused:

:edit: I've tested several P2P programs and discovered that that are, in fact, all running slow like Limewire. I think it could be UKOnline using traffic shaping ... has anyone else suffered the same?
 
ARe you using the defualt port? if so change it (on client and router port forward).


Run a speed test (google it, there are alot of them!). just to make sure your getting what your meant too... do it when your downloads are going slow (pause the downloads before running the test!!!)
 
I've changed the port from default but sill no luck. At certain times now, I'm lucky to get over 5 KB/s!
I've already run speed tests and they confirm that my speed is as it should be. When I download things through my browser (:ff: lol), I'm downloading at an average of 150-160 KB/s. Same with software updates. In fact, everything apart from any P2P! Grrr! lol
 
If you belive that your isp is throttling your p2p downloads, try using bittorent (its less common, so hopefully the dont bother with it).

Azureus also has support for obfusculated/garbled data transfer so the traffic is harder to identify! (i dont know if/when it is used or if you ahve to enable it yourself.... ).
 
I've tried Bittorent and Azureus but still the same ... but I'll give that more of a chance because I've only been downloading files with not many seeders. I'm think UKOnline will be getting a ring tommorow ... if it is them throttling my bandwidth, then I'm requesting my MAC code! It defeats the whole object of upgrading my line in the first place!
