My current setup is based on a P35 chipset and I have my Q9450 oc'd at the moment to 3.4 stable and no problems, however I can't get past this point . I know that heat and my ram is not the issue . I was wondering if it might be the mobo or cpu? What is your opinions on the P45 or X48 chipset boards? Or maybe I should look for a better quad ? Any thoughts please let me know.

Honestly, i don't see why you would want to pass that point. That's an amazing speed dude.
Chances are the reason why you can't pass that point is because you simply reached the limit. Well, the safest limit at least. Anything beyond that point might harm your PC and BIOS isn't letting you.
If you want a better quad wait for Intel's Core i7 to come out:

They're supposed to be amazing and the only chipsets to support them will be the X58's. They should come out soon (before 2009).

My mate has got that chip with a X48 mobo and ddr3 and got it running at 3.8 stable. but my question to you is do you really want to spend more money on a mobo only to get out 400mhz extra???? i honestly don't think it will make such a huge difference only hardcore gamers will go out and do it but i don't think your one of the mad ones.
I see your point and it makes allot of sense at least money wise. I know that Nehalem is about to come out and I had thought about it however I'm sure that prices will be no where affordable for some time. That being said and if some of the socket 775 prices come down would you recommend going to a board that supports DDR3 for when I do upgrade to Nehalem at least I'll have my memory for my next build or just stay with DDR2 and upgrade next year. Thanks for the advice and help.

I mean your rig will be powerful enough to play the latest games for a while so why not sit it out and then make a huge leap in technology when it's cheaper. Get DDR3 latest mobo and chip and just indulge your self lol

In this case a p45 board that is backward compatible so can use DDR2 and DDR3 could be a good investment and not necesarily limit later upgrade, though it won't handle an i7.

No one here is a fool we all learn by asking questions.
Yes there are bottleneck problems with the P35 but seen as he already has it i don't think there is really a good point to go and spend money on a new mobo that will slightly improve his CPU and the entire rig. Basically what i am trying to say is that he should have bought a X48 mobo instead of a P35, now it's too late and not worth the upgrade (in my opinion).
As for getting a mobo that does both DDR2 and DDR3 well yes they are good when it comes to upgrading to the next gen memory but there are drawbacks to them and one being is that these kind of mobos have to split the number of DDR2 slots and DDR3 so you end up having something like two slots for each which isn't really practical especially if you want add lets say 8GB DDR2 or DDR3. I think the most number of slots i have seen is something like three for each type of memory.
At the time when I purchased the P35 , the X48 was not out so that's why why I chose the P35. The reason I 'm looking to upgrade is that Nehalem will be released soon and I fear that the cost and all it's bugs that will have to be worked out will not be worth trying. Therefore I 'm looking at what I can do to my system that will get me through until maybe the second generation Nehalem mobo's and cpu's come out . At least by then the bios should be up to par as well as it giving us a chance to see how they OC. Please take no offense by my reply about the P35 I bought and why.

If you want to get Intels new flag chip mobo then you need to get new mobo along with it some new DDR3 and there are a few problems with the memory on the new X58 mobos hooked up with a Nehalem aparently you can't go over 1.65v when it comes to memory otherwise you end up frying the chip:doh:
