MacBook LCD Vertical Lines

My MacBook LCD is showing vertical lines, but the connection to an external monitor works fine. It is no longer unde Apple Care. Any suggestions about what could be wrong and how to proceed?

Have a quick look at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2376?viewlocale=en_US if that doesn't help looks like it might just have to go in for a repair
