Mandriva Sound problem

Hi, i have just got Mandriva Linux installed last night, got sound working through intergrated crap as X-FI dont work :(, the problem is, i am playing Music from my server and its all crap sound quality, i don't know if this is due to Bit rate, but when using my X-Fi Fatal1ty Sound card i never had any of this, so whats going on? why does all my Music sound crap?, its all distorted, i know it's nothing to do with my speakers tho so it must be something to do with the soundcard, could it be a conflict with the X-FI?, i cant see how tho as i am using my intergrated sound card now and hearing everything, i am listening to Music on AmaroK, earlier on i was listening to Virgin Radio in AmaroK and that sounded ok.

Damn, soz for the post, about 5 seconds after making it i thought, AH i think its the PCM in Volume Properties, and i was right :), it was too high, dunno why it makes it distort tho :s

It's just the integrated, your high end card must be good. I use integrated sound all the time, and maybe I just get used to it.

i wish i could use my X-FI Fatal1ty, its a waste of money when it's doing nothing, Linux can actually Detect the card right, just there are no drivers for it?, so if i install XP in an Emulator, then install the X-FI Drivers, then put speakers into X-FI, i will be getting sound through the X-FI on the XP Emulator right?

Don't think so, the virtual machine doesn't have direct access to the hardware, it only interacts with the VMware layer which requires the proper host OS drivers to offer the hardware to the virtual machines.

You can download Linux drivers for your sound card directly from Creative Labs : Home Page - The leader in Digital Entertainment for your PC and the Internet if you want.

I'm sure it's possible to get them through your repositories if you set them up right, although I haven't tried yet.

If it's a 'real' Audigy 2 with an EMU10k2 chipset, that is fully supported in Linux. If it's one of the newer ones with a sound codec instead of a real SPU, you might not have such great luck. But if it is an EMU10k2, you already have the module (aka driver), you just have to make sure your card is setup right.

First, we need to know exactly what chipset your sound card has. Run the following command and posrt the results:

lspci

Next, we want to know whether the drivers is loaded. Run the following and post the results as well:

cat /dev/sndstat

i cant run those, it will proberbly pic my intergrated sound and not my Sount Blaster X-Fi.

Then disable your onboard sound in the BIOS. :)

So, are you saying it might be possible to get my X-FI to work? it is using a real SPU for deffo.
