max no of hd

hi i have an eclipse msi motherboard with 8 hard drives: 1x120gb ssd, 3x2tb, 3x1gb and 1x1.5tb. i recently installed an internal sata dvd drive but everytime i connect the dvdrw, one of the hd disappears. bios can detect all of the drives including the dvdrw. os is windows 7 32bit.

your thoughts?

The only thing I can think of at the moment would be that the SATA controller has been configured as an IDE device in the BIOS and therefore it disables the IDE controller. But that's just a thought.
