Media test Failure?

Ive just made my own pc and it says to me before installing windows "media test failure, please check cables". I wounder what this is because it is stoping me from progressing....
 
Mother board: K8 trtion series nforce 4 sli gigabyte technology
Ram: Corsair 1 Gbyte twin X
Graphics: Geforce 7900 GT Oc
Harddrive: Barracuda 7200.9 250 Gbyte
Proccesor: AMD 64 3700+ (939)
Enermax dvd8401 (lightscribe)

OS: Windows XP

I have found it says underneath "media test failure" - "boot disk failure" This is due to the harddrive not being detected? I have my DVD/CD drive in the master part of my IDE cable and my Harddrive in the slave? Can i do that or do i have to buy a another IDE cable?
 
When exactly are you trying to do?

Are you trying to install a fresh copy of Windows, whilst you are logged in to your existing installation? Or are you booting your computer from the Windows XP Installation CD?
 
i don't fully understand, but traditionally the HDD is the master on the primary (end of cable) IDE channel & CD / DVD are usually primary slave (middle of cable, same as C/SEL),

the reason your recieving "boot disk failure" error is because, your BIOS is probably trying to boot from the primary master (your CD / DVD)

it is possible for it to work, by entering BIOS and changing the boot order of your IDE devices

however its far easier to just set your HDD to master and your CD / DVD as slave on the same IDE cable (primary IDE)

That wouldn't change the boot order to boot from CD though

by default PC's boot from IDE0, whereas IDE0 is his CD / DVD,

he doen't say that he's trying to boot from CD

but the system appears to be trying to boot from CD

so, if he were to leave the HDD as slave on the primary channel and leave the CD as master

he would have to change the boot order (from IDE0 to IDE1 as first boot device)
