That's what I thought. The nForce 2 chipset your motherboard uses has issues running CAS 3 timings. Neither one in itself is bad, but the nF2 simply does not play well with CAS 3 timings, and that's what timings your RAM works on @ DDR400 speeds.
However, there's some light here. The nForce 1/2 performs best with the RAM:FSB ratio set 1:1. Setting the RAM speed higher, oddly enough, will lower performance a little. My guess is that your CPU works with a 133MHz (DDR266) FSB, and that's why the BIOS defaults to it. You may have changed the RAM:FSB ratio before to 2:3 or something which allowed the RAM to work at DDR400. However, given the nF2's inability to play with CAS 3 timings, that's probably the reason you were experiencing issues.
