Microphone problem

A bit more information wouldn't go a miss - details of fault, have you tried plugging the mic into a different machine? Have you checked the audio levels (most importantly the 'recording' audio levels - if you are on XP/Vista)
 
I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit, with a dg33tl MoBo, intel Q6600 processor and Nvidia 9800 GT video bd with an Antec 900 case. I tried to use other microphone INPUTS (FRONT OF CASE AS WELL AS OTHERS) with no success. THE MICROPHNOE IS INTEGRATED WITH A PLANTONICS HEADSET AND THE SOUND IS TRANSMITTED. I HAVE ALSO CHECKED THE SETTINGS on the mixer TO SEE IF MUTE WAS ON.
I must be missing one more control panel.
 
You've tried the mute switch if there is one on the headphone lead then?

Has the mic ever worked or is this a problem from the start? Can you try the headset on another computer?
 
Yes, I checked the switch on the headphone lead and microphone has worked in the past. In addition, I tried another microphone which also did not transmit any sound. I have updated the sound driver. Next I am going to open the case and see if there is a conecction that has become dislodged and look for another control panel that I may be missing. How can I test if there is a problem with the connection at the MoBo?
 
With a multimeter on continuity resistance test and see if there is a break between the headphone style jack and the solder point on the motherboard - possible I suppose if you have been fiddling with it a lot although i've never seen it happen with all my years fixing machines.

Sometimes this issue can be cased by having the incorrect input device selected - usb skype phones were a bugger for taking over the sound devices on windows machines - are you sure you have the correct one?

This is a Plantronics gaming headset. Just today I verified that it is working by using it on another computer. The sound is being transmitted. There did not appear to be any breaks in the solder point. I have updated the driver and the device manager indicates that the device is working. I just can't get past the thought that I am missing a control panel (I am using the Vista Ultimate 64 bit OS). Is anyone aware of a less known control panel for the microphone?
