Missing subwoofer with games

Hi,

I have a Genius SW5.1 1000 speaker system with Realtek ALC650 soundchip on my Abit IS7-E motherboard. OS is Windows XP Prof. When I watch videos or listening to music, my speaker sounds good but when I start a game, the subwoofer stops to function even if the games supports 5.1.
How can I make my speakers work with games as well? Any ideas why isn't it works properly?
 
Does this happen to all games which support 5.1? have you tried to see if there are any updated drives which might solve the problem?
 
The games I've recently played, had no subwoofer sound (Rainbow Six Vegas, Jade Empire, Heroes V).
I've found an articel which says: games with directsound have problems to make the subwoofer to sound.
I have the latest AC97 drivers installed, I'm installing right now the latest Intel chipset driver.
By updated drive you mean game update or driver update?
 
It seems that my subwoofer doesn't sound in Windows, either. It has sound only when I play movies (with Media Player Classic) and listening to music (with PoweerDVD). It seems only special programs can make the subwoofer to sound, however, in sound test it has sound so the wires are properly plugged.

Correction: in Windows, I have only the right and the left satellit is working, nothing else, despite the speaker environment is set to 5.1

I think file formats also matters in it.. If you are playing an MP3 file then you might only get sound from the front speakers but if you are plaing an MPEG file then u will get sound from all the speakers..:unsure:
 
As far as I know, if the speaker environment is set to 5.1, the stereo sound is mixed up for 5.1 sound (maybe that's called Dolby Surround), of course the sound doesn't cause real 3D effects and doesn't sound as if it would be a real 3D sound (AC3 etc.)

I don't think so.

In Windows, when I watch video in my web browser or listen to music, many sound formats are present. When "normal" sound is played (f.e. stereo mp3), in a 2.1 speaker system, the audio sounds from all the speakers, because it splits the low frequency sounds and the higher freq sounds and sends the low ones to the subwoofer. In stereo sound, there is no subwoofer chanell, still has the proper bass. I only want 2 satellites and a subwofer to be heard, when any sound is present. As it is possible in a 2.1 speaker system, it is clearly obvious that stereo can be split to proper chanells in 5.1 according to the 2.1 speaker system.

There is only one thing that has to be solved.
The default sound output of Windows XP has to be DirectSound. If that happens, every sound will be sent through the subwoofer as well, and that will solve my problem. How can I make it happen??
