Multiple Monitors

Hello,

I have an ATI all in wonder 128MB AGP (I think) that is being split off to two LCD's. I have another ATI RAGE (I think) also an AGP 128MB video card.

How can I tell if I can install both video cards so I can split it off into two more monitors (for a total of four LCD's)?

I realize that there is only one AGP slot on my motherboard so I could get another PCI card but in general, do I need a special BIOS or software in order to split it off 4 times?

That is not possible. But if your graphics card has 2 vga outputs, then buy 2 of the following splitters:

You're correct that the main problem is that you only have one AGP slot, so to do what you want you would have to use a second card that is PCI. That's what I do.

The problem though is that a lot of older PCI cards don't support dual monitors. That's ok by me, as I use a 3 monitor setup. One "main" central monitor, and then a right monitor (that's the second output of the main AGP card) and a left monitor that is powered by the PCI card.

I have only done this with nvidias, but I would think it would work for ATI's as well. Bear in mind that it may take some tweaking to get this to work. The only way I could get my current home system to work this way was to disable the onboard firewire. (There were too many resources in use).

It worked fine on my work system though. Also, you've got to install the drivers for both cards independently.

Your best bet is to just get a super-cheap ebay card, and try it. It'll either work, or not.:P
