My PC won't shut down!

Hi...
I recently built my first pc and everything went really smooth, except for the fact that it won't shut down. I'm running Win XP Home SP1 and when I select shut down (or turn off with power button on front of pc) it goes through shut down process but actually does a restart. I have checked all the power connections to make sure that they are properly connected. I don't know what else this could be. Can anyone help?
System Specs:
Mobo: AsRock P4V88+ 800FSB
RAM: 2GB DDR400
HD: WD160GB
DVD Burner
DVD Player

This is my only problem, except for I can't get past the 127GB barrier (I thought that xp SP1 took care of that issue). Still researching this too.

When you installed XP, you would have either installed it on a fresh partition, or a partition smaller than 127GB, as the previous OS didn't support it either.

Therefore you must have specified that the size of the partition was 127Gb as a maximum, or maybe you chose a 50gig one instead (for example).

Either way, once SP1/2 is installed, the remaining disk space needs to be formatted before it can be used.

So go Start>>Control Panel>>Performance+Maintenance>>Administrative Tools>>Disk Management>>

Then you can access your hard disks, see what is used etc, and format the rest of the drive to make it useable.

It will then appear as a Drive E or whatever in My Computer.




And as a matter of not shutting down, it is likely that your BIOS aren't uptodate, or a setting is wrong within them. Some BIOS support fairly odd pwer management systems, such as my brothers PC won't shut down unless you hold the power button for 5 seconds.

It displays a message "Its now safe to turn of your computer"...windows 95 anyone?
 
Yes, I do have the latest BIOS, but I wouldn't know which settings I would have to change in there to correct this issue. I know that my pc isn't set up in "always on" mode. As for the HDD, that worked! But now my complaint is that I hate seeing 2 drives (C: & J:) when it is actually only one. Any way to merge these?
