Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone could give me an insight into the following:

I have three PC's and one laptop; (1xWindows Server 2003, 1xWindows XP and 1xRed Hat).

They all share a wireless router and only the laptop connects to the Internet via WiFi. I wish to share folders between the laptop and the Windows Server, therefore would I be best looking into setting up a VPN?

Just share the folder(s) you want. You could do VPN, but that seems like an awful long way to go about it for a local setting. You probably want to make sure that your wireless connection is secure and only allows for authorized Wi-Fi cards (namely the one in the laptop) by MAC address.

Yes, I performed a folder share, however, the laptop wouldn't display the shared drive!

I ran the Win XP network wizard on both the desktop and the laptop, then I attempted to view both in Network Places. When I did, however, no folders/drives were present. My set-up is this, I have a wirless router, which the PC is connected to via NIC. The laptop connects via WiFi, therefore I cant see how I'm unable to share folders etc... I have even disabled Norton whilst attempting the above, and still I cannot share access.

Any help much appreciated.

If you click on 'View Workgroup Computers', can you see any?
Also, try using Ping to see if the computers are actually communicating.
 
Hi,

Well I should have know it, NORTON was to blame all along!!!!!!!!!!! I have had many instances of Norton interfering with a variety of products etc... however on this occassion it had slipped my mind. Now I just need to config Norton to allow connections.
