Networking not woking

I have recently built my computer and am still in the process of trying to get it setup properly. However, one problem that is really giving me a headache is that the internet is not working at all. I have installed the chipset driver on the cd that came with my mobo and then i installed the newest chipset driver from nVidia.com....nothing! Still not working. I cannot figure it out for the life of me. Im using an Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe with AMD 64 X2 4600+ socket AM2. The chipset is nVidia 590 SLI. Thanks in advanced for any help.

it's nothing to do with the chipset drivers, net will work with OS generic drivers

what OS are you using ?
how are you trying to connect to net ? (dialup modem, DSL, cable etc etc)

what device for surfing net ? (make & model)

Windows XP Pro x64
I have a Gigabyte ethernet adapter onboard (w/ cable internet)
The Cat-5 cable is plugged into the 1st ethernet spot (tried both anyways)

What is the network cable connected to? A cable modem or a router?

have you correctly configured your cable modem ?

i dont know much about cable modems and their use, but DSL routers require a little configuration (username, password etc etc)

what make and model as your cable modem ?
(to allow me to do a bit of reseach to help you)

Are you sure you didn't get any Network drivers on your motherboard CD?

I had a CD which had the Graphics, chipset and LAN drivers with my Asus A8N-SLi Premium..

Double-check it to be sure!

That's what puzzled me. I DID have those drivers yet it didnt help nor even recognize the network bus at all. However, i did figure something out. I guess by defualt is to turn them off on the mobo...didnt know that. I turned them on, booted up and instaled the ethernet driver again w/ the mobo disk. Recognized! Then it asked to reboot...so i did. When i booted back up, still no internet connections. To top it all off...that networking adapter that was recognized and supoosedly installed isnt even listed in the device manager!

Also, its now plugged into my router instead.

P.S. I also found two listing in the Chipset part of the BIOS for nVidia LAN 1 and nVidia LAN 2...both enabled.

Well...i've been given an RMA#. I think im going to try and reinstall windows before i do so just to make sure. ALso, i am using XP x64. I should be using this if i have a 64 bit cpu correct? Its not this that would be causing the problem is it?
