Please help me
Have tried numerous times to create a home network with my two pcs but had no luck at all. Both pcs have XP pro, both have network cards, connected via crossed ethernet cable. Have run the network wizard on both but still cannot communicate with each other.
Both show they are connected as icon bottom right of screen tells me. When i click status it says connected at 100 mbs on each pc. Activity on host (sent-14,933bytes recieved-31,219) , client (sent-31,544 recieved 15233) which seems logical.
The host performs ok on the net but when i try internet explorer on the client it tells me there is no connection and gives me the option to dial which fails, also i dont seem to be able to access files from the other pc.
What am i doing wrong? :(

John, the Windows XP Networking Wizard is just a hair above worthless in the grand scheme of things. :( We get this question quite frequently, so please check out our quick & dirty walkthrough for Windows networking. If after that you still have problems, I'll be around to answer your questions.

Have you tried using the 'ping' command to see if you get a response? Also, make sure you don't have a firewall enabled for the LAN. Other than that I'm not really sure.

Does windoze tell you that the network has 'limited or no connectivity'? and have you enabled that feature?

Also: this happend to me, i took my pc to a friends house for a lan party.... it was set up while i was away (i deliverd my pc and had to run off again). It worked fine while i was @ his house but a couple of days later i tried to connect to a friends pc using a X-over cable.... it just failed miseribly with no usefull connection [even net send messages failed!]

i soted it by...
backing up all my documents, Formated my HD and started a fresh install.... windoze allways seems to work flawlessly for the first week after a install!!!!!! [i re-install windoze every couple of months, or when i find a error that wont :swear: off]

P.s REMEMBER! Windoze firewall liek to enable its self randomly and at every oppertunity!!!! as mentioned above, check to see if its enabled
