new 8800 GPU - pc5400 RAM OK?

hello, my friend is getting a complete new upgrade, the 8800GPU PC but will his PC5400 ram act as a bottlekneck with it or shall he get faster ram

cheers, appreciate your help.
 
Its not the ram you should be worrying about, its the CPU, whats his full new system specs? I have PC3200 ram, not a bottleneck for the GPU, its the CPU thats the bottleneck, allthough better /faster ram will give more performance but PC5400 should be ok.

Is he getting an 8800GTS or an 8800GTX?

don't know, he'd spend around £300 - £400 for the gpu alone. ironically i've just come from a post where we were talkin about the CPU isnt THAT vital for gaming, http://www.hardwareforums.com/cpu-advice-17678/new-post/

i figured since there is a lot of bandwidth in the bus during game play the ram takes toll for every single Hz, and since 620MHz is fast it may act as a bottlekneck (or significany reduce speed) for the bus bandwidth and wonder if faster ram IS WORTH BUYING if my theory is true
 
Well I know for a fact my 3700+ bottlenecks my 8800GTS, I guess he is getitng the GTX, he WILL need a decent CPU if he wants to get the best out of that graphics card, if he can spedn that much on a GPU, he should get a good C2D CPU, he will then have no problem. Well, the faster the ram is, the more data it can shift, so I cant see it been a bottleneck :s, deffenitly not since most DDR2 ram is faster than DDR ram lol, and DDR2 aint acting as bottleneck. you can also get like 1000Mhz DDR2 now, ir 800Mhz, cant remember the max though.
 
yeah, the dominator PC10000 (1250MHz i think) (10,000 / 8 = 1250)

he's gettin a monster cpu, either the AMD £400 (dunno which one) or i fink he said the core2 duo extreme edition, he's nuts lol

so PC5400 will be ok as far as the 8800GTX goes?
 
Yea, its the CPU thats the most important thing in a system when you got an 8800 Series GPU, I been reading up on some other forums, and it seems that 8800 really does need very good CPU's.

a C2D E6300 overclocked would be a £400 AMD cpu lol, but I suppose AMD are more reliable, still wont stop me form upgrading to C2D lol :D
 
in my experience with intel, intel has been extreamly realiable which is why i switched FROM amd i wouldnt go back i know amd is better for games (well used to be) but its windows speed i need the most, thats wot the gpu is for.. gaming :D
 
Lol, well the CPU plays an important part in games too... as said, you need a good CPU for a card like an 8800GTS/GTX to perform to its maximum. For windows any decent dual core will do lol, just for video encoding and things like that is also were you need a good cpu.
 
The Pentium 4, Pentium D, and Core 2's all operate with a quad-pumped FSB. A 1066MHz FSB requires only DDR2-533 stuff, ie. PC2-4200, as DDR is indicative of the equivalent at SDR SDRAM speeds. So PC2-4200 runs at 266MHz, which matches up with the base frequency of the fastest stuff. Hell, even if you go to a 1333MHz FSB, you only need DDR2-667 if you run at stock.
