id rather stick to the epox board, they'd be better with the overclocks from your venice core cpu

Yeah put the $50 extra your spending on the 3200 to some PC3500 ram and go back with the 3000+ Venice as it's a great chip too.

    hey,
doesnt my mobo only support ddr 400 ram? how would i be able to put ddr 433 ram in there?

also, will a venice 3000+ be able to take full advantage of a x800 pro?

    thanks!

By 222, are you referring to the timings? If so, at PC3200 speeds, no. If you're looking to overclock the RAM, you're probably not going to get very far with any Value-designated RAM from any company.

Patriot PC3200+XBL is pretty good stuff, and if you're willing to go with 512MB you can probably get a 2x256MB kit of it for a little over $100. If you're not going for capacity and overclocking, you're not going to get very far with ValueRAM.

RAM ratings are like tire speeds. DDR433 will run fine at slower speeds, much like a tire designed to run 150MPH will work at 40MPH.

As for pairing the Venice with the X800 Pro, it's going to be a good match up. Will a faster CPU net better performance? Yes. How much depends on what you're playing, what resolution, color depth, etc. You're not getting a slouch for sure, although you could probably jump to a 3200+ for a little extra.

    hey, the 222, i meant the cpu to go 222 X 9 instead of 200 X 9 (in the case of athlon 64 3000)

It's a gamble with ValueRAM. I mean, it's fine for stock speeds, but I can't see the Kingston ValueRAM OC'ing very high. In general, stuff designated for Value doesn't OC all that well. You can get some Corsair XMS stuff for a reasonable price these days, not to mention GeiL or Patriot RAM.

It's possible but in general, as Big B said, value ram is not designed for tweaking and overclocking so don't expect to get anywhere. It's possible but you could be dissappointed:( If you're not overclocking it's good stuff but now that I know your plans I'd say some Mushkin RedLine series ram, Patriot XBL like B said, or maybe OCz gold series.

The Patriot's the zRock picked out are great, I'd say go with them:good:. The stuff ninja linked looks good but none of us here seem to have any experience with the brand so I for one can't recommend it. It might not be the greatest overclocker compaired to the Patriot of OCz.

    Total: ~$812

** i went back to the old case because it seems these days it ships with 2 separate 12V rails--1 with 10A and the other 15A. also, i did the check (http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/Power_Supply_Calculator.php?cmd=AMD) of how many watts all this equipment needs and it came out to be 300, so i figure a 350w psu from antec should do.

** i went back to epox cause its better for stock oc'ing. since i dropped the cpu to athlon 64 3000+, its 200 X9, and i want to get that to be 223 x9 so i can get 2ghz. so its just a little ocing, which i hope my mobo / psu can handle - with those spare watts.

** still a little unsettled on ram, but i hope the one i have here can handle 223 fsb, if not, i will have to get that patriot one i guess - so im open to more opinions on that please.

    thanks for reading!

another quickie, is it better to get more expensive ram (with heat spreaders and better oc abilities) and not get the thermaltake and wing it with the retail hs and fan - or is it better to get the termaltake and be frugal on the ram???

thanks ex! and on that note.. a round of "thanks" has been given to the helpful pps :)

No prob dude, you definately want to stick with the better CPU cooler over jazzed up ram. heatspreaders on ram are very important for overclocking but you can buy a pair for cheap. The performance series should overclock pretty well as it's name suggests but overall it's a tremendous value as higher priced ram is usually just low latency which can easily be done in the BIOS anyway.

    cool,
also, worst case senario (fingers crossed :) lol) if the 350w psu burns out or w/e.. is the max damage just the psu - at which point i get a better psu, or can something like that hurt other parts too???
    thanks!

Well it depends on what you mean. If the PSU burns out from just cheapness, then no, it will probably take out a lot of other stuff with it. If it underpowers your system it will simply not start. You should be ok with the 350 though. I have a 400 watt PSUwith a similar setup but I have a 3500+.

it could take out others, but I doubt you'll full load the PSU yourself, if you dont plan to overclock then id rather get the better RAM and maybe a stock cooler, the venice cores are cool
