hi im just going to put a new motherboard in but i have a sata harddrive that was used on my old motherboard will i need to do ne fing or can i just put it in there?
The main issue you'll run into is the chipset. While you can swap motherboards out from under Windows, it doesn't like having the hard drive controller suddenly changed. This is why you'll see it recommended to do a fresh install when you change motherboards.
If you just want SATA and aren't going to install Windows on the hard drive, I'd pick up a SATA controller card and use that instead.
