new sound card

I just got a new sound card.

I connected it to the pci slot and installed the software and i still have no sound. I posted before about trying to get the onboard sound to work but it never did.

Am i supposed to connect some wires as well as the pci connection? the manual said connect the cd-rom drive audio wires, but i didnt get any wires with it??

I am considering wiping my hdd and reinstalling windows.

Any ideas?

You shouldn't need those cables. Thanks to the design of the ATA standards, sound can be transmitted over the data cable without the need for the pass-through cable.

However, something is amiss.

The easiest stuff to check would first be that there's no conflicts in Device Manager.
If there is no conflict, check that your speakers are plugged in the right ports, turned on, and that the sound on your soundcard isn't (for whatever reason) muted in Windows.
