New system with STOP crashes

Hi everyone. New to these boards and already I've got a problem! It's a major STOP problem with my brand new system

I've got:
Intel Pentium D D930 Dual 3.0GHz
ECS PA1 MVP motherboard
Atrix 650W PPU
ATI Radion X1900XTX 512MB video card
4x Kingston 512MB HyperX DDR2 memory sticks
80GB WD SATA-II hard drive for running Windows XP, applications and games
200GB WD SATA-II hard drive for my media, files, downloads, etc

After formatting both drives as NTFS and installing Windows XP Professional on my 80GB, I straight away installed Windows XP SP2, ATI CATALYST 6.6 and my motherboard drivers. Then I installed Valve's Steam application and some games (Half-Life 2, HL2: Lost Coast, HL2: Episode One)

The problem is my computer keeps on randomly restarting. Mainly when i start opening applications or running a game such as Half-Life 2. After I log back into Windows, a pop up appears saying Windows has recovered from a serious error. The error code is:

System Error Error code 0000009c Parameters 00000000, bab3c050, b2000000, 1040080f

I have unchecked 'Automatically Restart' in Startup and Recovery in my system advanced settings but my computer still restarts and I never get blue screen.

Some other information:
I have run memtest86 and Microsoft Windows Memory Test and they report no errors.
Nothing has been overclocked as yet.
I have also checked that my 4 memory sticks are firmly in their slots.

Can anyone please help. It's driving me nuts. :crash:
 
make sure your CPU fan is still spinning. if it's not, try removing the plug and putting it back in its place firmer.
 
Also, check that your heatsink is on properly, maybe even remove the current thermal paste on the cpu and put some new on.

What are the temperatures of your cpu?

i had random resets with my rig, it was down to the weather and not enough voltage on the cpu, but mine was overclocked so there shouldent be a problem with voltage of cpu etc.., sounds like a heat issue.

My old rig had a problem like this, exept the computer compleatly shut down and sometimes only reset, problem was down to a faulty motherboard, it was really annoying as it was a very good motherboard, overclockers board aswell :'(
 
Well my CPU temperature starts at aroun 28-30 C upon startup in this current hot weather I'm getting. Under an average task usage, it rises to around 35. 38-40 if I'm playing a game.

It is around 30-40 when it is resetting itself. My auto-shutdown temp in BIOS is set to 75 C. I don't think there is a link between my CPU temp and these restarts.

I get temp readouts from both my BIOS and my digital display on my tower. The CPU is cooled using a Coolmaster Liquid cooling kit.

If the problem is power-related, or anything else, how might I go about finding that out and fixing it?
 
ah, it wont be the cpu temp if its been cooled by a liquid cooling kit although, i would of expected lower temperature than that at load with a liquid cooling kit, i would of thought those temps were normal with the stock cooler :/ unless the temps can get as high as the prescot cores of the pentium 4's.

Check that the video card is seated properly aswell and that everyhting is connected properly, maybe it could be faulty hardware, maybe even the video card, those x1900xtx's get hot and from what i have seen very noisy, and i noticed that alot of people are having problems with this card.
 
My VGA temp reads at 40.7 C at the moment whilst in desktop. I will run Half-Life 2 and see what it goes up to....

Just been playing HL2: EP1 for a good half hour now without any problems. It crashed just now. VGA temp was at 54.1 C. Is that normal
 
54.1, yea thats normal, my x800xt pe goes up to about 60 i rekon, can go all way up to 90 infact when using stress test utility.

check to see if the watercooling unit is seated on the cpu properly, i dont know what these watercooling units are like, never seen them.

make sure motherboard is secured to the case.

could just be a faulty motherboard or somthing, its a baffling problem, ummm, set your bios to default settings.
 
I suspect it could possibly be the Atrix PSU. I've not heard of this brand before and looking at them they seem to be suspiciously cheap. Try unplugging the 2nd HDD and optical drives to get as much power to the rest of the system. If that doesn't work try to borrow another decent quality PSU if you can and try that.

Its always worth spending as much as you can afford on the PSU and stick with a known brand such as Antec, Enermax or Tagan. Especially with a high power system such as yours.
 
Yea, it will most proberbly deffo be the PSU, all that stuff running on that psu, do you know what the amps on the 12v rail is? wattage aint everyhting, its whats on the amps that matter, some 300watt psu's could easilly out perform a cheapo 500watt psu.

just quickly skimming over those specs i never noticed the name of the psu :s

I would suggest getting a new psu asap, and untill you get one, dont be using that system for games, or for anyhting really, that power supply could be damaging components in your pc.

i just did some reasearch, if the psu is what i think it is: 650W Blue Transparent 12cm Dual 12v Rails

it has 14a on one 12v rail and on the other 15a, i dont know if thats bad as my psu: hiper type r 580w has 18a and 20a on the rails.

so alltogether that Atrix has 26A, from the picture it doesent look good, transparent, and i cant see much heatsinks etc.. in there, well there is 2 fairly large heatsinks once i seen a larger image, but i can imagine that psu been pretty low on weight if i picked it up.
 
STOP: 0000009C is a hardware related issue, not software.

Either your memory or CPU cache is responsible. If you can, try a different stick of RAM (or try one at a time in a process of elimination) or borrow another CPU.

Can you see any errors in Device Manager?

Can you see any errors in the Event Viewer?

to run a 1900, u need at least 30 amps on da 12v rails. that psu is not up to it. the reason why those errors are appearing is becoz the psu isnt giving enough power to the system. that is the most likely i wud say, but there cud be a minor chance of the ram.
i wud think its the psu.
