hi, i would be very gratefull if someone could help me with this problem. i recently purchased a second hand olivetti 900t laptop from a computer fair. its in great condition for its age and is a complete model with nothing missing. im having problems loading windows 98 onto it though. it started off by having problems with the hard drive which i managed to fix by partitioning and then reformatting the hard drive. it now scans without any errors at all so im assuming the hard drive is ok. i then tried to install win 98se. it runs thru the whole process fine up until the point where you get a screen that says "microsoft windows 98, getting ready to run windows for the first time" but then the pc just freezes and does nothing. if i then shut down the pc and reboot it goes into the options for start your computer in safe mode. i choose safe mode but then it comes up with "himen.sys has detected unreliable xms memory at address 01000014, xms driver not installed". it then says himen.sys is missing, make sure that file is in your windows directory.
as far as im aware that means that there is probably a fault with the memory?
i have software that can boot from a cd which will tell me what problems there are and give me the spec of the laptop but when i go into the bios settings to change the boot order i only have 2 options which are A: or C:
so i can only choose to boot from floppy first or disk drive first. does any one know how i can boot from cd if there is no option in the bios?
please help!!
