No Video Input

A friend of mine asked me about his computer, he says "It turns on, boots up but all it shows on the monitor is "No Video Input Detected"".

I personally don't know what the problem there is, I haven't seen his PC or anything, that just what he tells me, and he wants to know how to fix it...

So if anyone here can make sense of that it would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

can you ask your friend if the screen says this all the time, or just when windows starts (or what ever)

if its blank all the time the problem could lie with your monitor, gpu or monitor cable and need to find out what it is by changing things around:

the first thing to do is test his pc with a different monitor, if the new monitor fails to display anything then it is safe to say its the GPU thats the problem

another test is to test the monitor on a different pc. if the monitor doesnt work then its the monitors fault, not the gpu

Check the cable from the monitor to the PC and make sure it's secure at both ends. If that doesn't fix anything, make sure the video card is plugged in, if he has one.

Also if your friend has had the GPU installed recently by someone (with all onboard graphics drivers removed), check your friend isn't still using the onboard graphics card port instead of the new GPU port.

If its only the OS it could just be a simple 'out of range' problem. I know some monitors will give you a no signal message instead of the out of range which can be mightily annoying. It all depends if he s seeing the BIOS or not.
