Notebook Hard Drive

OK Im looking to replace my notebook hard drive on my Dell Inspirion 5150....

What steps do I need to take when looking for a replacement.....
Sizes, interface..... etc? Any help will be appreciated thanks....

the size is 2.5 inch. interface is Ultra ATA/100 IDE/EIDE. and yeah, thats basically all u need to know to replace you hd.

[ot]Btw, I've got the same N/b but its faulty. I m trying to figure it out, whats wrong with it. Hopefully I will come out with a solution soon.[/ot]
 
OK thanks for the help on type i prob. need...

Little Background:
I recently was experienceing extreme slowdown problems and over all unsatisfactory performance. I wen ahead and try to reformat and reinstall windows....

Upon deleting all of my partition and creating a new one... I end up with this screen countless times.
-Steup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged.

Make ure the drivce is switched on and properly connected to your computer. If The Disl is a SCSI disk, make sure your SCSI devices are properly terminated. Consult your computer manual or SCSI adapter documentation for more imformation.

You must select a different partition for Windows XP.

If you have a USB 2.5 HDD case then you can check with it. Thats how I do it.... Also, if you have another laptop then you can check with that as well
 
OK small update, I've tried deleting the partition and create a new one... still no luck same eroor mesage comes up...
I was wondering if it is indeed only my HDD that is causing the problems or is it something else that i need to look at?

What state is your hard drive in now?

What I suggest you do is visit bootdisk and download the Windows XP boot disk.

Boot your computer from the disk, then once you are at the DOS prompt type:

chkdsk /f
