Odd problem. Please assist.

Hello, I have an odd problem with my PC recently.

One day, all of a sudden after I dusted its fans clean with an air blower/duster, it didnt start up right. Instead it only displays Main Processor info, CPU clock and thats it. It then prompts me to press del to enter setup or ESC to enter boot menu, but it does not respond to any keyboard commands.

So, I opened it up and went through the culprits. After I checked and tried everything, it suddenly started up fine. Okay I though, problem solved by whatever I tinkered with inside. Today I come home...same thing. Wony start, only shows the CPY clock/main processor info. I tinkered with everything again and then as I was on the verge of giving up...it randomly started up again. Argh!

Obviously its nothing to do with any of the physical connections inside, as I simple reconnected things like power supply, hard disks and memory. (Took them out, put back in) and it didnt immediately react to that, but just randomly decided to boot up on its own.

Any ideas on what this could be? I am afraid of shutting off my computer for fears that it could decide to refuse to start up again.

The only idea I have, and I have no idea if this can have anything to do with it, is power fluctuations from the power system in the house having something to do with it. I.E, apliances stop randomly or refuse to work at times in the house as well...but, its not like the comp wasnt turning on, it was, it just wasnt booting up. Like I said only showed those two things and thats it.

Any ideas anyone? Like I said, Im afraid of turning off my computer now. :(

weird, can you varify the power in your house is exactly what it is suppose to be, i believe it should be 120 Volts @ 60Hetzs (however, i'm in UK, so i may be wrong) but your power company may be a big company, but, that doesn't mean their always right, maybe an electrician could help you prove that your power company is supplying the incorrect power

Edit: although, you could try a decent brand PSU (a beefy one) too

In the UK, the voltage is 240 :)
Or, technically, 230V +/- 10%, to fit in with the rest of Europe at 220V.

I'm afraid I can't shed any light on the problem though. The PSU should supply power to the computer at a constant voltage internally, as long as the external AC power input is within its tolerances. If it's not, then it would surely stop working altogether: i.e, the computer's PSU should either work or not work, as opposed to varying voltage inside the computer.

Actually u said that it stops on the step in BIOS where it is telling you to hit del or f1. Is it making a loud beeping sound? It could be that your keyboard is the culprit (believe it or not.) Go ahead and change out your keyboard and see if it will boot. I'm a big fan of checking the little things first lol.

Actually it just randomly started working again. I have no idea what this was/is and I hope it was a one time thing.

Thanks for the help anyhow.
