I'm thinking of upgrading pretty soon. Is it smart to go from a Radeon x550 up to a Radeon x9550?

Never heard of an X9550.

Do you mean an X1950?, if you mean an Radeon 9550, then nope, the X550 is much newer and better, but if you mean the X1950XT, then yea its good performance, but i would reccommend waiting to see what new from ATi/Nvidia, the R600 is coming soon, think the end of this month, and then Nvidia are releasing mid range DX10 cards (8600GTS) which should be cheap at around £100-£150, so best bet is to wait.
 
sorry meant 9550 not x9550. at the moment ive got £60 to spend on a card. Downstairs im using the 9550 and its running games i want to run, like half life 2, counterstrike source - you know where im coming from... On my pc upstairs im using x550 and its not running any of those games, so i think im just going to get the 9550 and have done with it. My friend said it wont be compatible. ive got an Asus motherboard im not too clever with figures and spec on this type of shit but heres some stuff on the box, PCI-E x16, support DX9, 10/100 ? lol

So if you could just let me know if Sapphire RADEON 9550 (256 MB) AGP Graphics Card is compatible then that would be awesome.

That Graphics Card wont be compatible as its AGP (Accelerated Greaphics Port), PCI-E is different and you wont find a 9550, but for £60 its preety much a rip off anyway.

Get this which is deffenitly ALOT better than a 9550:
OcUK GeForce 7600 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Best to save up for:
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

But if I was you I would save up more from some decent DX10 stuff for future compatability, see what ATi will have to offer in the coming weeks.
 
Thanks for your help Willz. I just went to the computer shop down the road and i got a Club3d ATi PCI-E x1300 256mb GDDR - 64bit - DVI-CRT

Now, before i put this in, do i have to uninstall my x550 first?
 
How much was that card if you dont mind me asking? Its not going to be that good at the latest games tbh.
