operating on a hard drive / clicking

I recently had a hard drive that died, doesn't even power up. normally i wouldn't really care, but this drive had all my music on it, about 12,000 songs. i purchased a cheap drive hoping i could just swap the "discs" inside the drive. This was a little tougher than i thout, but i did manage to get it done. The new drive with my old "discs" does power up, but the drive arm just "clicks" and goes back and forth rapidly. The system doesn't recognize that the drive is even there.

Any Ideas???

If I have read you post properly you have actually changed the disks inside the hard drive? Holy crap! :eek:

I don't think anyone will be able to suggest what to do next. You might need to go to a specialist organisation

agreed, that's most likely damaged it further.

You could have bought an identical hard drive and swapped the logic board over, which might have allowed you to access your hard drive again, only if it wasn't damaged physically.
