plasma vs LCD

hey guys dont know if this is the right place for this thread but here goes anyway. Im going to be buying a new tv soon (looking at about 40") im just wondering which is better to go for plasma or LCD? thank you

plasma tv uses less electric and produces sharper images than lcd, the screen can get very hot with plasma and liquid inside the tv needs to be replaced now and again (im not sure but perhaps once every 3yrs)

personally i'd stick with lcd
 
o, that kinda puts me off plasma now. I think ill definatly go for lcd, ive been looking on play.com and there were a samsung and a toshiba 40" LCD not yet released but both were 1080p, which i hear is good however they are going to be £1149 and £1249 and then i have to buy a stand :S

1080p is certinally good, its the best conventional HDTV money can buy but £1000+ isnt necessary as you're just paying for the tag and depending on where you get it from you can get a very good 40" 1080p for around 600 - 700. I say VERY GOOD because like I say you're only paying for the tag on most expensife tvs saying that you can get a better tv and save £500

Google around a bit, I found a 720p 32" for under £300, I found a 37" 1080p tv below for £600, however the 1080p tvs are expensife on that site, see below the cheaper 1080p

this is good for 720p hdtvs:
Direct TVs : Cheap Plasma TVs, Cheap LCD TVs, Cheap HDTV and Cheap TV Accessories
 
Plasma, hmm we can say it's technologically old and it's research and development are stopped.

LCD is still going technologically forward. So I guess LCD will be better choise in future than plazma now is. If we are talking about 40 inches monitor/TV - go for plasma... it's more cheaper than LCD :)
 
You might also want to do some research into DLP. I don't know how much you're looking to spend, but the quality is quite impressive. They're pricier than LCD, but not where it's the level of "Hey, were going to price-rape you on newer/better technology."
 
Not sure if this is relevant still....

I am only speaking from experienc. I bought an LCD screen and was taken a back by the poor image quality. In the shop everything looked crystal clear....
It was only later that I found out why - The image source..... in the shop they used HDMI video source.....

Plasma still gives the best picture. Yes it is older technology and maby not developed anymore. But there is no comparison. So if you are going to go with LCD here are some tips from a desappointed dude:
  1. Make sure you buy the highest specs your budget can afford. If you care about image quality, do not cut corners.
  2. Use highest possible cable grades - it helps!
  3. Try and only use digital feeds. Analogue VCR and the like look pretty horrible.
  4. Be patient, getting the settings just right can take days! If you persevere, you will rip good results.
  5. A lot of LCD TV's have hidden menus and options (WTF???). It will not hurt to contact the customer support to find out how to get those options displayed.
  6. DO NOT expect the image to be crystal clear. This is the holy grail of LCD displays....

I can't think of anytthing else.... Oh, hold the phone.... the bigger the screen the further away you must place it. I know it sounds freaky but LCD images look far better from a distance! Concider the size of the room and where you will place the screen. FFS - go for a plasma! Save a dying bread..... :P
