Possible hijacking?

Ok so I just set up a wireless network in my house. Everything is running good except that when my wireless configuration utility scans for networks; it picking up two: mine and another that has an SSID of "default". Now this network is configured to pick up ANY SSID and disable WEP. Is this is someone trying to hijack my connection, what can I do to shut em out?. Change the WEP Key, Change the channel? HELP!!!! :swear:

no those are network profiles, you probably configured a new profile to set up in your network thats more customized than default. the default is used to disable wep for troubleshooting i believe, don't worry i have the same.

It just means someone around you is running wirelessly as well albeit with an unsecured network.

Right now at the house I have my network, the school across the street and 4 of my neighbors I have a choice of connecting to because noone bothers to enable wep/wpa/mac filtering. As long as you enable wpa or wep noone should be able to log onto network without really wanting to get on.

Oh. Thanks for the info guys. I'm a newbie at networking. I hear people always saying that wireless networks are less secure so I got a lil worried. Thanks for the help.

You can set your wireless network to not broadcast its SSID to make things harder for anyone attacking. Also remember to change the encryption key for your WEP connection other than the default one.
