Hi

I have been having some problems with my laptop screen going off (like in standby) while im working and not being able to do anything but turn it off by holdiing the power button.

however i have just had it freeze while i was working on the net, but this time the screen remained on. at the top left corner there was a red band with some white pixels in it that went half way across the screen.

I dont really know much about graphics card to know if it could be the problem so i wanted to ask if anyone has any suggestions, or if it is totally unrelated!

i think you should be able to see my specs, but i have nvidia geforce 8600 GT card (512mb).

Is there a way i can check if it is maybe overheating?

Thanks in advance for ny help :)

Hi mate its not necessarily a falut on your graphics card it could be a fault with the laptop itself. I have had this problem a couple of times or at least similar anyway. i found the cause to be the laptop itself overheatingm, make sure all the fans are working and that ur using it in an area where theres plenty of air around it not in say the laptop bag. Has for checking the temperatures have a look on the manufactorers website and see if u can get a utility for the temperatures, failing this google it.

Hope this helps Dave
