    As the subject states,

when I watch a movie I downloaded from the internet, and scroll it forward (in media player 11)
suddenly display turns black and a message appears: "digital power saving mode".
    I can't press alt + F4 , nothing else works except restart!!!

It also happened to me in vlc program, so it's not because of media player.
At first I thought it was a codec issue, so I uninstalled cccp codec pack, but the problem persisted.
It doesn't happen with all my vids, just a few...

Oh and and tried messing around with all the options in the "power options", tried different power plans, disabled "turn off display after..." and even disabled screen saver but nothing helps!!!

    So please help guys!

try updating your graphics card drivers and running windows update.

No updates available at windows update and as for gpu drivers I have the latest ones... (except for a new beta one which is reported to have even more issues...).

could very well be that the movie is corrupt , try playing on another computer to see if it crashes the application...

I also thought the movie is corrupt,
But now you'll never guess what happened!
The "power saving mode" , again, when I opened a photo using the paint brush!!!
    WTF?!?!?

Sounds like it could be the graphics card problem or possibly corrupt drivers, you best option is to re-install windows. If the problem persists it points towards a hardware problem.

If you decide to re-install, I'd give the PC a quick clean, just to make sure its not becoming overheated due to built-up dust.

ok, next thing would be to try a different card if possible (borrow from a friend maybe?).

Things I would try: update motherboard chipset drivers, update firmware, there's no guarantee it would fix anything but there could be compatibility problem causing the crashes.

Also try running [google]memtest[/google] to eliminate the memory.

What do you system logs suggest (look at event viewer in the control panel)

I'll check memtest & event viewer later,
Just wantad to say that this issue never happens when using mv2 player...

from your last post it suggests a software problem, event viewer might give more information.

did you try the K-lite codec pack?

Even when I removed cccp and had only divx codec left, it still happened.
As for event viewer, there's nothing there from the time screen goes blank till restart.

Can it be this graphics card is damaged?

How can it be? I mean, I can play games for hours!!! but a single second of power saving mode during movie playback or even when using a simple program can point to a damaged card?
    :(

sorry but problem is not very clear

    - first it happened during movie playback
    - nope it only happens to one movie
    - it happens during regular computer use
    - yet you can play games for hours? (if this is the case, graphics card should be fine)

Should have asked this much earlier but can you list you full system specification (including all USB devices connected).

Try disabling ACPI in the BIOS. (I'd suggest updating motherboard firmware if there are any updates available as they use fix simple bugs like this)

I actualy have a 8800gt but this was the card I had B4 the 280gtx and when I replaced them I had to format and re-install windows all over again because (I guess) nvidia doesn't like it when u switch cards (I had probs with drivers and had to use driver cleaner pro but there were tons of problems and the only solution was formatting...)
I don't want to go through all that again...
    :(

    EDIT:
I just updated the bios like a month ago... there are no updates available now...
all I can say is that it happens randomly! (but never in games, and never with MV2 player!)
It happened in media player, vlc player, acdsee, regedit, paintbrush.

    P.S
I have updated my computer specs...

    I dont believe this!
I just changed the screen res from 1680X1050 to 1440X900 in windows and ran briefly over all my vids one by one and nothing happened!!!
I mean there was no "power saving mode" error!
but I didn't even watch the vids on fullscreen so why does the win resolution even matter ???

What does this mean? how can there be any connection between the monitor res and the movie res that caused this power saving mode????

thanks for the update, it could be a bug in the graphics drivers, would suggest reporting to nvidia.
