i think that the memory is used that mcuh becoz the graphics card has turbo cache and uses 383meg. how do i turn it off. i guess i'll have to DL the latest drivers and they should have an option there.

    Q. Can I turn TurboCache off?

Because TurboCache is integral to the Quadro NVS 285 GPU, it can not be turned off.

I'm assuming it applies to all GPU cores

From the NVIDIA website. Sorry pal :/

ALL GPU's dont have turbocatch, just low end Nvidia GPU's.

Turbocache refers to a small amount of high-speed memory on the card, rather than having the card use all system memory it uses system memory as the most memory for the graphics but it has a small amount of faster memory on the card itself (often something like 16 / 32MB) to keep costs down but boost performance a little.

yeh turbo cache uses a certain amount of system memory so if u have 1gig, like me then the gfx card will have 512mb to use. BUT my Gfx card has 128mb memory of its own and therefore uses 383meg from the system memory. 128mb is a lot more than other low end cards have and the proper low end one's dont realyy hace TC. the lowest i know of that has TC is a 64mb card
I got my vista copy of a friend

Ohhh off a freind lol ;p

There practically as bad as intergrated graphics using system memory then, i would hate a GPU using damn system memory.

Its cant be right about it using 383mb of your ram, because on boot vista uses 512mb of memory.

So unless your using practically a fresh copy of vista with no other apps installed and using internet explorer, you would have hardly any memory left now.

Well the graphics card doesnt exactly use all of the memory when it doesnt need it. And it isne as bad as integrated grahpics coz they dont have any of their own memory to use whilst my 7300 has 128mb on the GFX CARD itself.

If intergrated graphics dont have any memory themselves, that means on my old pc i should be able to increase it, when i first got my old emachines pc, it has 4 mb, but not the graphics has 32mb O_O

do you mean 'but noW the graphics has 32mb'
i think they go up to 64mb shared memory so yeah u can increase it.

How do i increase it, because it used to be 4mb and all of a suddent it went up to 32mb when i isntalled windows once, and since then its been the same :s.

Some intergrated graphics like the dell ones at college have about 294mb.

u can incease/decrease it from the bios. yeh its probably possible to have more mb for integrated graphics but im unsure about that
