Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question. I have down loaded a active x plug infile to enable the viewing of a particular web cam. When trying to open I get the message un able to open. Try getting explorer to open no go. Try on line to be informed I need a ocx file. but unable to locte one for windows xp2. Any help welcome.

Hi, For some reason Weymouth council webcams require you to have this active x explorer plug in for their cams to work. normally on first vist to the cams this plug in down loads and installs. Mine has downloaded but my system is lacking something to enable to install. Active x is safe if from a known site and approved. ie. Java. Only dangerous from dodgy sources ie. porn sites.

Go to Device Manager and see if there is any yellow exclamatery sign over there.....

Device Manager (RightClick MyComputer > Manage >UnderSystemTools, you will find Device Manager)
Check if there is any yellow exclamatery sign.....
Also please let us know the model number and name of your web cam...

Hi Trying to view Weymouth and Portland Borough Council web and internet enabled cameras and web cams
to do this i need xplug. ocx from cellvision systems inc. the activex control.
Normal when you first vist the web site of weymouth cam. you are asked if you want to install. this does not happen with me as the plug in is already on system but not working. I have tried un installing with out success.

I cant visit their website coz I've got IE7, which they doesnt support. Anyways, did you read the manual before installing the drivers for your Webcam? coz there are sometimes when you dont connect your product before installing drivers.....
I would suggest you to try this...
Go to Add Remove Programs in your Control Panel and remove every software relating to your Webcam. Then go to device manager as I stated above. If you see any driver related to your webcam then remove that as well. Remove the webcam. Insert the drivers CD, install all the drivers carefully. While installing if software requires you to plug in the Webcam then do it but if it doesnt then dont. After installing drivers, restart your computer. Plug in your Webcam and see if it detects... Good Luck
