Problem "reformatting" Toshiba 2401?

Hi, need help. I'm trying to reformat a "Toshiba 2401" laptop. I've entered the Bios, altered to "Boot" first from fdd. The only floppy "Start-up" disk I have is for ME/2000. I also have the ME/2000 cd-rom (which I purchased some years ago when building my first PC, so it's a legit version).
I Want to install my XP Pro onto the laptop, I thought I could install ME/2000, and then "upgrade" to XP Pro.
After running "format c: /u" I then restarted with ME/2000 in drive, message reads "Invalid System Disk". Cannot get past this point, any ideas out there please!!!!!!!
(Had to "clean" hard drive, too many bugs & things, impossible to do anything, programs & windows popping up all over. Brother-in-Law gave me laptop (know why now) (got new one,lucky g-t) because I got cheesed off trying to fight off the kids on my PC).

Hmmm, first of all Windows 2000 and Windows ME are two vastly different operating systems, and don't share the same code base. Let me demonstrate:



If you have Windows ME, I can see why you'd want to upgrade. On the other hand, if it's really Windows 2000 Pro you're talking about, that was arguably the best operating system Microsoft ever put their name on. In that case you might just want to stick with 2000, since XP doesn't offer any major features over 2000 Pro but does run much more slowly than 2000 on the same hardware.

Now that we've all got that behind us, let's deal with your solution. If your copy of Windows XP Pro is an Update Edition, you'll need to have another MS operating system installed before you can proceed with the installation. If it's a full or OEM version of the OS, you should just be able to pop the disc in and boot straight to it. The Windows XP installer will handle all of the formatting, etc internally -- no more need for the dusty old fdisk and floppy boot disks. Let me know if I can help further.
