Hello,

I have a problem with my Cd-Writer, it worked out fine before but now when computer boots it displays on the hardware detection list smiliy faces and other weird characters, windows doesn't boot up when the CD-Writer is connected to the MB.

Comp Specs :::

MSI K7T(MS-6330) (Via KT133A Chipset)
PlexWriter W1610TA
DVD-ROM Pioneer 16x (DVD 116)
Maxtor 60 GB, DiamondMax UIDE100 5400rpm

I hope someone can figure it out because I can't.

Please help !!!

What OS are you running? You did have it working before; what OS did you run back then?

Have you tried removing it from the device manager? and then re-installing it? this might work! as it seems the drivers might be crupt? or the cd writer may need replacing!

Did you change any hardware, or did this start doing it all of a sudden?

Yes id start all of a sudden, and i haven't changed any of my hardware.

Well I can not run windows when the CD-Writer is plugged to the MB so i can't remove it from device manager too.

Try taking out the cd writer, then load up XP (if it loads)
once loaded plug it back in, and then update the drivers & firmware, this could work, as XP should detect the cd writer and install the drivers for it! (you will have to provide the drivers! I think?)

Umm...do you mean plugging it back when computer is running ??? Well I ain't rich enough to test that kind of stuff, if you know what i mean. And this ain't hot-swap anyway.

I just remembered that someone in a different forum I visit is having some problems with his Plexwriter as well, although it is different. I'll have to check and see if they get a fix or not for it. I'll post if it does fix his problem.

I my self have PlexWriter 32/12/10A not had a problem with it on XP Pro! :D

Sniper seems as though it depends on the hardware, my Plex 40x & 24x work fine yet when I try to reinstall WinXP on another system my 8x drive decided it wants to act up.

Judging by the amount of posts at cdfreaks it seems it's a common problem for errors to develop after a move or reinstall of XP, have no idea why but it seems to happen .
