I'm not so sure if my problem lies with the motherboard or something else. I have an ECS 648fx-a mobo, P4 3.0, Radeon 7200, 1 gig RAM. I went to install my new hard drive and when I boot up the hard drive just starts clicking. When I install it into my old machine, it is fine. I have checked all of the cables to ensure I didn't accidentally install them backwards somehow. Also, when I remove the hard drive and try to get the machine to post, it doesn't. It does absolutely nothing. It poweres up, the fans all spin, the RAM leds light up and nothing displays on the monitor. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Check your motherboard to make sure that:
a) Your motherboard is properly mounted to the chassis, and is not grounding anywhere it should not be
b) All jumpers on the motherboard are set properly, and the CMOS Clear jumper is in the "Off" position
c) All IDE drives are connected properly and each have their jumpers set properly (Master on the end of the chain, Slave in the middle)
d) All expansion cards are seated deeply and evenly (especially the video card)
e) Your RAM is good. Use Memtestx86 to verify this. If you cannot boot your system to accomplish this, you will have to test your RAM in another (compatible) system that is functioning
f) Your power supply is functioning and is adequate to power your system
Try these simple steps and let us know if you still need assistance.

lmao, ur not gonna believe this but my powersupply was only 125W, basically over the years i'd up graded basics, and forgottent completely bout the powersupply LOL
so i fcuked the motherboard totally. anyway, i sent it back saying it was Dead, getting a replacedment and a nice 400W PSU :)
