Quake 4 texture problems

I posted about this some time ago but no solution was found. But i'm getting VERY frustrated with this problem.

Ok, Almost a half a year ago I had a sempron 2500+ processor(Which played quake 4 like crap). Then I upgraded to an Athlon 64 3000. It smoothed Quake 4 gameplay by a ridiculous amount. I was able to play quake on my new system at 1024x768 at high quality with specular on and everything else off, which I am happy with.

The problem occured when I thought I could handle AAx2. I turned AAx2 on and restarted quake. But when I loaded the lvl the graphics were at low quality. I thought that this was wierd but I just figured that I could set my settings back to what they were and everything would be ok. I was wrong.

I searched the web looking for solutions to my problem and couldnt find anyone that had the same problem. The only thing that I could find was a command that says that if I type "setmachinespec" into my console then I will see what quake detects my settings at.

I tried it and it says something like this:
1.8ghz cpu
1024 mb of system memory
64 mb video memory on optimal video archetecture

So I figure that there is my problem. Quake 4 is saying that I only have a 64 mb video card, which is incorrect. Can someone PLZ help me?!?!

Before you suggest solutions let me fill you in on what I have tried:

I have Uninstalled and installed 3 different Nvidia drivers (4.9,77.77 and 91.31)
I have uninstalled and installed at least 2 different quake updates and have tried the original version
Reinstalled the game in different drives multiple times

From what you've said it's kinda hard to determine exactly how to fix your problem. what exactly are your system specs? by telling us this we will be able to identify further solutions. (if you are unsure about finding detailed and accurate system specs visit Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management and download the everest program. it is really good and should help you). once we know your system specs it should be easier to identify a solution. as of now the only thing i can say is that i do not think your gfx card can handle quake 4 very well, however i dnt know your gfx card specs and i may be wrong...
 
Do you mean my specs listed arent enough? And by listed I mean under my name.

If the my computer tab isnt working here are my specs:

AMD athlon 3000
1 gig pc2700
Nvidia Geforce 6200oc(256mb)

And you might say that my video card cant handle quake 4, but it used to and it plays bf2 and doom 3 fine.

Dude, Warmonger, could your registry possibly be screwed up??

I registered and no such luck.

If anyone who has quake and has a 256mb video card could go to there console and type "setmachinespec" and tell me if it says 64mb video card or 256mb that would help.

Umm, Warmonger41, I'd say you misunderstood DaRuSsIaMaN. He didn't mean registering the game, he ment the system registry (ie Windows registry). There could be some errors in it and that's why you're getting only 64MB recognised. Try some regisrty repair software (google for them) or COMPLETELY uninstall and reinstall your card (the whole process - uninstall drivers, clean drivers, physically remove the card, plug it in, install drivers).

But this is some weird problem. Never had such thing on my part. :dry:
 
One possible fix would be to create another user account on your PC, and then use that user account to play the game. If it fixes the problem, then it may be that some of the graphics settings are stored in your user directory, and that they have been corrupted or messed up in some other way.

you have v similar specs to mine.

I have an AMD64bit 3000+ @ 2GHZ
Nvidia Geforce 6600@256mb
1BG pc3200 ram
and crap on board sound lol.
 
lol.. now I understand y my registry could have been the problem. I used some of that registry repair software, but it didn't work.

I have already tried COMPLETLEY uninstalling my video card twice already.

Also I used my little bros user account and that didnt work. Should I need too create a brand new account??
 
I just tried a Geforce 3 ti 200, I understand that it only has 128mb's or memory and its too slow for quake(average maybe 15fps) but it still only detected my video memory at 64mb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Damn, what a horrible bitch. I really feel for u man ... I once had some really weird problem with my video card which didn't make any sense at all but that's another story ...

Well, u could ultimately just wipe out windows and clean reinstall it? I'm sure that's gotta fix it if nothing else has worked... ugh.
 
Well I guess that is my answer. I have been telling myself that i'm gonna reinstall windows, but im a little worried about messing it up.
