question about an SSD

ok, so i bought an SSD from newegg a few months ago, and it's a sata II interface. i thought it was backwards compatible with sata I, which it isn't, so it didn't work with my motherboard. I've since got a new motherboard and i can install an OS on it, (xp, kubuntu 8.10). When i copy large files onto it in both xp and kubuntu, it starts to... i guess you could say stutter? it starts out at ~50MB/s write (newegg advertises 80MB/s) and after a while it goes down to about 15MB/s and starts stuttering. Is this a bad drive?

I don't have any experience with SSD but i have read a lot about them and i would say that there is something wrong with your because firstly if you look at the feedback on Newegg by customers well it ain't really good some had their die on them, secondarily i have not read or seen anything that compares to your problem so i would assume something is wrong with it.

yeah that's what i'm thinking... i did find a pdf on supertalent's website that shows you how to update the firmware on the drive and that's supposed to increase the write speed. It says to boot off of a win 98 boot disk and run the program that they give you, but it's telling me that it can't find the supertalent disk when i run it... oh well i guess i'll rma it AGAIN this is such a pain in the ass

no. there isn't a problem! it's just the way some ssds are, they read really fast, but write is horrible. multitasking is impossible. i read that the problem is that they simply didn't put the extra writing cache memory, so instead of us paying $300 for one ssd, we would have to pay $1000. or something like that.

can anyone tell us, which is a good, in writing, ssd?
