Some Questions

-1- why does amd keep changing thier sockets when intel are STILL running lga775. I see even conroe is using this slot

-2- for gaming purposes how do we compare the conroes to AMD's. I mean the cheapest conroe is the E6300 runing at 1.86GHz so we difineately cant compare directly.

-3- is there a midrange conroe/nvidia platform for gaming at the moment.

-4- what implictions will this have for amd. Intel seem to have the edge on the cpu side and now amd has gone and forced itself away from the better gfx company by buying ati. It see
 
i think for question one Intel has a good platform socket mobo which can handle DDR2 memory, and PCI-E slots and such(also Intel is the bigger name with more money, could get better mobo first). AMD has the 939 which cant handle the DDR2 so they needed a upgrade to DDR@ with the AM2 mobo.

Question two you would need to use a chart like this Game Over? Core 2 Duo Knocks Out Athlon 64 | Tom's Hardware
for gaming purposes it compares FPS on both Intel and AMD CPU's so that you can see preformance through that.

Question three, are you asking like a good cost on both ends that could get you a core 2 duo and graphics card? the Core 2 duo E6300 is a good CPU for the price(about 200$ USD) and it preforms well to the top AMD. for card nvidia has a wide range, the 7600GT and the 7900GT both got top 100 hardware products on PCworld.com, both good quality for the value, the 7600GT can be found for 150-200$ USD and the 7900GT 270-300$ USD. you would also need a mobo, just look for a 775 socket with PCI-E

Question four amd has planned for a new CPU coming in late 2007-early 2008, it probalby will only match the core 2 duo, but with AMD's majore price drop it might keep alot of market value because consumers can get "more for less" the famous AMD saying. i dont know what you mean by "amd has gone and forced itself away from the better gfx company by buying ati" you arent forced to buy ATI if you get AMD... but in market comparison the AMD vs Intel, AMD is on the lower end and ATI vs NVidia ati is on the lower end, but both have good products.

if anyone wants to correct me on anything i said go ahead, and i dont know if this even answers your question.
 
what i mean is that amd has bought ATI. This obviously means that nvidia (the company most ppl agree has the upper hand in the gfx card scene) is forced to alighn itself more with intel. What i was saying is that amd is looking like there in a bad position because intel now have a better prosessor and are aligned with the better gfx company.

well intel's 6300 overclocks like shite,, from wat ive read, i goes to 3ghz easily as of there 65nm technology and stays much cooler and draws much less power than amd's cpu's. intel is in the lead now but amd have still got a chance becoz of their major prices drops even with am2 mobos and cpus. most people who cudnt get the processor before will have a chance to do so now as they get more bank for buck.

Hardly true. Once they reconsider their pathetic IQ, I might reconsider buying one.

Ask X1K users how they like being able to use HDR+AA in games, whereas it is strictly impossible for any nvidia card to do right now.

rumor has it that nvidia and intel may join, but all the mergers are for company gains, dont think of it like the best with the best and worst with the worst, think of it as a team up to work together and create good products, im sure that AMD and ATi are together for a reason, to create even better GPU's and CPU's, if intel and NVidia join then that will be their purpose also. just give it time to see what comes of it and im sure that amd and ATi wont go down because you cant go without competition. if intel is the only CPU out there than that's against the right of choice in america! we have the right to choose from mulitple CPU's not from one, so im sure that AMD will stick it out there and survive
 
i agree that nvidia dont have an edge sigle card wise, but when you look at it, nvidia has a very good dual card solution which can allow for HDR+AA, ATi does have crossfire, but this platform has not been fully completed to work with many games and when cards care Sli you can run at higher levels than Ati. but i agree when looking at single cards ATi have better deals, but Nvidia have the ability to go sli and meet/ surpase in preformance Ati cards
 
How does the Conroe E6300 compare to AMD chips? What would be its AMD equivalent? Does it perform better than say, an AMD 4000+ single core AM2?
The only reason I ask is because all tests I've seen dont include the E6300 because it's enty-level.

wow, i thought i was going to begin a fight lol, but anyway, i would say that the entry level E6300 should be compared to an amd dual core just because its on a diffrent level than single core. i would say that the E6300 would rate like a 4600 X2 amd processor like the 3800 X2, look at these charts, the 6300 has a clear victory in most categories.X-bit labs - Articles - Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 + ASUS P5W DH Deluxe: Ideal Mainstream Platform? go through all the pages and look at comparisons, i think its just what your looking for, did this help?

Conroe seems to be the new king at everything. I'm actually happy intel was able to fight back after all these years. Let's see how AMD will answer.
 
well when you look at it, i think intel has been the more popular CPU out there to date, even though before AMD had been the best choice. but intel has finally come out with a new computer changing product. hopefully now with amd and ati joined, we can see a new era of CPu products coming in the next couple of years.
