Just out of curiosity, does overclocking a processor to a speed as a higher rated processor make the two the same? Eg, if I overclock my Athlon 64 3000+ (1.8ghz) to 2.2 ghz, will it be the same as the 3500+ which runs at 2.2ghz?
 
Assuming everything else is equal, yes. Also, since most overclocking happens on the FSB or HTT (as with the A64/Opteron), you may even be faster.
 
Yes, intheory, but you also have to remember the cores, cache sizes, and other various technologies.For example, overclocking a 3000+ Venice to the same speed as a 3700+ San Diego is not equal. The San Diego core and the larger L2 cache will keep the 3700+ faster. Beyond that benchmarking would be the only way to figure out how much higher you would have to be to equal it.
