runtime error

hi folks! for the first time ever, i have had the 'R6025 - pure virtual function call' error! the only reference i can find to it involves IE use and this is not the case. briefly (i hope), i have just build a system using some oldie-worldie bits and pieces as follows:

msi kt4av board
athlonxp 3000+ (barton)
1gig samsung 333
nvidia fx5900le

i was running madonion 3dmark01, when the error occurred and threw me out. previously, i had been doing the same test on the same setup with a ti4200 and no errors occurred i have only run the program once with the 5900, but i thought i'd seek any similar experiences here before going any further.

any ideas please?

Are you using the second edition of it? (SE)

Do you suspect the GFX card? ie. is it an old one? Can you try 3dmark 06?

Running the latest nvidia forcewear drivers?
 
hi ferg, glad to have brought a little nostalgia into your life!

funnily enough, i have never used this before; used to use another program called ???mark2001 with lots of space ships and vehicles zapping each other. can't for the life of me remember the name though.

yes, i'm using the second edition. have run the benchmark again but couldn't replicate the error....it completed fine. what amazed me was that the 5000+ that i scored with the ti4200 became 10000+ with the 5900!!! i know it's a different generation card, but that's a hell of a difference eh? these old athlons are still pretty good too.

yup, i'm using the latest drivers and no, had no problems with the 5900 before. i have 2006 but with this outfit i would take forever to run lol!

just one possibility though. i had previously hooked up the rig to the internet and had a microsoft notification on my my task bar for updates. these were never completed before i removed the connection. the only way i could get rid of it was by un-checking the individual updates and saying i didn't want to be asked about them again. i am therefore wondering whether this caused the error in the first place. what do you reckon?
 
It could be a number of things I guess - perhaps that update or maybe something else.

Have you been fully uninstalling and then re-installing the nvidia driver package every time you swap the cards. While often it seems to be fine while changing cards on a full re-installation of the driver can guarantee best system stability.
 
....you've just reminded me that the ti4200 drivers were not present on my latest driver package...had to download an old 2006 set; 96.something or other; last one done for ti series i guess. when i swapped to the 5900, i just uninstalled in device manager, shut down, changed the cards and booted up again. pointed the wizard to the 96 drivers and carried on regardless!! possibly the system didn't like it, but i'll probably never find out :O
but thanks ferg for your input, guess i'll leave it unsolved now.
