Screen Does Not Power Up?

Yesterday my mouse froze on the screen of my PC. I plugged in a USB mouse and hey presto it was OK? Then after about twenty minutes my screen switched off? I tried hooking up to a spare monitor but this too had no signal being sent to it. I also tested the original screen by connecting to my laptop. The screen worked. ??? I also tested out the original mouse using my laptop and it too was OK?

Can anyone advise a technical luddard?

Thanks in anticipation

Steve

Update: I have done some research and after listening to the 'beeps' being emitted, have narrowed my problem down to

1 Long, 2 Short Video adapter failure Bad video adapter

However, what is the solution for this? Presumably because the mouse failed first this would suggest a failure in RAM or am I talking rubbish? If it is a bad video adapter what should i do?

Hi, If you've read your motherboards manual and the following beeps you mentioned says it's bad video then you'll have to invest in another graphics card. what motherboard is it
before buying a new graphics card I would try and re-seat the current card to see if it makes any difference, if not you'll have to buy a new card.

Thanks. Would the fact that the first thing I noticed was that the mouse failed before the screen ? What would that indicate?

Folks, thanks for your replies. it turned out to be a mother board failure. First the mouse, then the video card. Anyway, sorted now. Thanks
