A few fan tips n tricks of how to get more cooling - for free

I was on another thread and someone had cooling problems, now I don't know if he is willing to buy anything so i'm gonna make a thread of how to lower temps for free maybe about 3-6 degrees celsius. or possibly more

its just a few simple ways

first of all, remember that hot air rises, so its a good idea to have intake through the bottom, and outtake throught the top preferably

intake/bottom front
exhaust/upper back

also a note that most PSUs actually blow air IN on the chipset and don't exhaust. and a few degrees might be spared if your system is running hot to actually make them exhaust instead of intake. but I do not recommend playing with this since you can get shocked while playing with the contents of the PSU even if the power is turned off.

either ask a specialist to do this or perform it yourself but know that I have warned you and do not accept responsibility for any injury or fatality.

another way is to simply clean your case of dust, it may lodge itself in heatsinks or move in the case lowering airflow

another good decision is to make fans close to each other performa the same operations or else the airflow will be disrupted

just a few tips over cleaning up cables, yes it is a big difference to your temperatures

1. I've seen this alot and I advise not to do it, I mean putting and tucking cables UNDER your motherboard, we don't want any parts in back to get damaged or possibly snapping a piece of it off with a tug.

2. Use the empty drive bays you have instead preferably the highest 5.25" bays that are free

3. most importantly, keep the cables away from the CPU region

4. Antistatic tape or zip ties are very good to use, and look pretty good under UV if you do a good job (they have to be UV in the first place)

Don't forget that cables make a huge impact on airflow, so making them tidy has performance aswell as aesthetic benefits.
Use cable ties to keep cables that must be in the way together and pull them to the side.

Simply using better thermal compound can improve temps.

Don't try it with changing the PSU fan around, the PSU fan is an intake fan for a reason. Aswell as electromotive force dangers, heat build-up in your power supply isn't a good something.
 
I should have noticed about the cables too haha, thats obvious, wait I'll add on a lil do and do not section about cable clutter

about the PSU is true but it also disrupts the airflow entirely by pushing air away from your rear exhaust so its kind of a risky 50/50 situation
 
Well my PSU exhausts, with 2 fans, so I'm good in that area. I've done about everything you mentioned. Good tutorial for the n00bs though.
 
yeah, thats what I really write my guides for, I'm too lazy to write hundreds of page guides haha, so I'm a noob educator i guess haha
 
yeah I'm working on it, going a bit more into depth on that, wrote out a few small ones to keep people busy before i get the GPU one out
 
I'm going to do (hopefully), quite a few fairly in depth descriptions of hardware, starting with the CPU. I can't do them yet because I have a summer assignment (:x:) that is due on Friday so I have to get that out of the way. But once I get that turned in I should have nothing to do for the rest of the summer, well I have a trip... they may or may not get done before summer ends. Depending on how in depth they get they may or may not be posted on the forum. Most likely not.
