Has anyone seen the latest Sky advert covering all their services.

They claim they can provide a 16 mega byte connection for free, or £5 or £10 or whatever it is. A 16 mega byte connection really is something. They want to watch out someone might sign up for the package only to find its a little slower than Sky first claimed.

How this got passed the people who check the adverts I dont know. Surely its false advertising even though its obvious the people recording the advert dont know thier bits from thier bytes!

I considered switching, but I'm not sure if it actually reaches the claimed connection speed. But I'm going to stay with Blueyonder, their service has been flawless and since i've been with them i've had 2 speed upgrades (256k to 512k, then to 2mbits).

I think Sky offers:

Up to 2Mbps - Free
2GB Monthly Download Cap

Up to 8Mbps - £5 /mo
40GB Monthly Download Cap

Up to 16Mbps - £10 /mo
No Monthly Download Cap

I think the 2Mbps and 8Mbps services are subject to activation / installation fees but the 16Mbps service those are free.

Also note it's "up to" meaning you may never get anything near those speeds.

I also think you get a free wireless modem / router too, my mum is thinking of changing as she's finally seen the light (she's paying £22 /mo for 512Kbps broadband with a 20GB Download limit - BT can't / won't give us anything faster or any new equipment)

Matt is right on the button. There is no false advertisement.

I am with Sky 16Mbps service for a while now and I have no complaints. I pay £10 a month which is a saving of £10 comparing to my previous ISP and my speed has gone up to 4Mbps+ although my previous ISP told me my line will not support speeds higher than 1-2Mbps.

I realise that 16Mbps is the absolute maximum which I will neve see. However, this means that I am future proofed for a while and also I got all the equipment and activation for free. So for the first year I am saving around £250. After that I will be only saving £120 a year. As speeds increase, I recon within a year or so I will be geting around 8Mbps for absolute nada! Not bad.... ;)

The only flaw I can see in Sky's offer is that if they become too popular, their speeds might drop which means throwing money at it which means higher monthly fees.
 
My point is they actually say on the advert that its a 16mega byte connection, when its really a 16 mega bit... hence false advertising. Otherwise its a 128mb connection.

Oh right I didn't see that. If they did make a mistake, I don't think most of the population would have seen it.
 
thats so not fair, why do i have to live in a broadband incompetent nation, and why do i have to live in the sticks.... I'm moving to the UK
 
I noticed tonight that they have fixed it. It now says "16 meg"

I hate the term "meg".... mega hertz, bytes, bits, amaced?
