SO TIRED OF FAILING DRIVERS - ATI 3650 512 Pci-E 2.0 AND VIStA COLIDE

Thing works in every game except CoD4. Every 15-20 Minutes or LESS I get the most anoying black screen, notification of failing drivers, and an anoying in game death. WTF do I do... I've tried everything I can think of... As far as I'm concerned, ATI and their incompatible drivers can die in a fire...

Just so everyone knows, I'm using Vista 32 Bit, and the ATI 3650 512 card... HEEEEELP PLZ.
 
Updating drivers, Uninstalling drivers... Rolling back drivers... Installing oem drivers, updating oem drivers... Honestly... Nothing has worked...
Uninstalling the game... Running at different settings... Underclocking... OVER CLOCKING. Absolutely nothing...

HOWEVER this is very recent... I installed the 8.11 drivers, and they seem to be working better. I will not say with 100% faith that they wont fail however...

Anyways, Ideas would be very welcome.
 
Normally I would suggest Omega drivers, but he hasn't make any updates in ages. ATI's driver quality has always been a hassle, which is why I moved to NVidia sometime back. That said, a quick Google search has revealed that your problem is a pretty common issue for CoD4 owners with ATI video cards. I haven't been able to find a clear solution yet, but maybe you will have better luck: cod4 ati 3650 black screen - Google Search
 
COD has issues with default audio bitrate - stupid I know, in order for me to play it I have to go lower than 24bit 96hz (you don't actually have to be using a digital output for this to be a bug)

Worth a try - lower your audio bitrate :)

(i know its giving you gfx driver error - but worth a try after all you have already tried)
 
Well I actually think I may have solved the problem for good...

I BOUGHT AN NVIDEA CARD! So yeah. Idk what I'll do with my old one... But I bought an 9600 GT and hopefully it will run on my 550w PSU otherwise I guess I'll be screwed... Anyways thanks for trying at least people :D

Yay another convert!

Seriously though ATI should be really have sorted this mess out by now, i remember them having driver problems in my first year of Uni (cough cough 6 years ago). It just makes it an easier and easier decision as upgrade time rolls around if all you dare buy is nvidia. :)

If Intel gains a true monopoly, CPU and video prices will inflate and the pace of the technology will likely decline. They're also the only real contender against NVidia in the gaming and high-end workstation graphics market.[/ot]

I agree to a degree however even though AMD now owns ATI I still don't think of them as being the same. I've always used AMD's processors and always used Nvidia's Graphics cards and weirdly because of this always thought of them being the best combination while the 'other' choice was to go with Intel & ATI.[/ot]

Me too, but now that it's the same company, their futures are intertwined. ATI's best hope is to fully open-source their drivers. Creative Labs has a horrible reputation for their drivers, but once they open them up, the big improvements started rolling in. The open/Linux drivers for the EMU10k1 are much better and more reliable than those in Windows, for example.[/ot]

While i'm sure that it a valid point about opening them up you do have to worry about a company that while putting what must be so much money into R&D - they just seem unable to get the reliability the market demands more and more into their product via the drivers. I'd be interested to know the differences between the budgets & staffing of both ATI & Nvidia's R&D depts.

It is also interesting that while ATI is already on DDR5 for their latest cards while my brand new gtx295 is still on DDR3 they aren't leagues ahead even though they are obviously pushing the envelope hardware-wise. [/ot]
