sound problem

Hi,
I have been trying to fix sound problem for the last few months and I still coundn’t get to proper solution. I had even browsed google about the problem and looks like all suggestions couldn’t get fixed. I downloaded intel sound drivers and still didn’t work. Actually I formatted my computer after it got infected by virus. Now I am not able to hear sound. Could anyone help me?????????

Computer details:
Motherboard: Intel DG101GGC
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
 
If the driver doesn't fix the problem, then try to see if there is a BIOS update for the motherboard that would fix the problem (usually all the BIOS updates supply a list of what kind of issues that specific update is addressing). If there isn't, then don't update your BIOS as it might damage something else even more!

I had this perfectly good working Asus motherboard with a VIA chipset (my last desktop; was working almost w/o faults for 4 years). When I got my new machine, I moved the guts of that old PC to another location (and another case), reinstalled the system and, boom, the sound was gone. No trace of it. Tried to reinstall the drivers and other stuff, but no sound anyway. Ended up buying a PCI sound card (Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 VX) for $24 - supercheap and gave A LOT more functionality than the integrated VIA thing.

My point is - if it's so hard to find a solution and community references point to nothing, then don't go to mcdonalds for once and buy a new sound card :D
 
Thank you Edijs. i have even tried updating BIOS and it still didn't work. i had also taken to a hardware and even they couldn't get it done. could there be any other solution? another thing is that after i formatted, i tried installing sound driver and some kind of message like 'the hardware hasn't passed windows logo testing' is displayed. i am totally tired now. i would be happy if you could suggest anything further.
 
if even people whose job it is didn't get it done, then you're probably out of luck. My suggestion still stands - get a new PCI audio card.

The 'the hardware hasn't passed windows logo testing' message means just that the driver hasn't been sent to Microsoft for validation. It means little in the real world, mostly.

Check your documentation or the symbols on the sound card to make sure you actually have the speakers plugged into the proper jack. If you are using USB speakers or a full USB sound card, try connecting them to a different USB port. USB ports often break inside the PC when the cords are jerked or tripped over.

First off try using PC-Wizard or Everest to determin what hardware you've got. if the software does list your device you can go into details tab on PC Wizard or Everest and it sometimes gives you hardware IDS, google for them if available if not follow what i've mentioned below.

are you sure your installing the correct driver? when u look in device manager is the device listed as "unknown device? try this: go to device manager, right click the sound device - properties - details tab and select "hardware ids" from the drop down menu. copy and paste the details from the hardware ids box into google and you might have a good chance of finding out what the device is and finding the correct driver.
if you don't have any luck doing that, open your computer case and look where your pci-express x1 slots and pci slots are on the motherboard for a couple very small black chips it will have writing on but very small and faint, some have a realtek logo, if you can write down what's written on the chip and google for it you will have a good chance of finding the drivers. The chip im asking you to look for is basically the PCI-E or PCI onboard audio device, it's basically attached to the PCI-E controller or PCI controller.
