Anyone who's used a credit card to purchase something off Steam should keep an eye on that card. As per the title, someone, by the name of MaddoxX has compromised Steam, according to DailyTech.

While only the Cafe owners appear to be in immediate danger, MaddoxX claims to "have shell access everywhere" and has posted a list of login details for accounts on the VALVe servers, and private certificates for "People with a little bit (sic) experience ... create their own 'fake' but working cafe / certificate."

It's not currently known how far-reaching the credit card breach is, but STEAM users who have purchased products online for electronic delivery would do well to keep an eye on their credit card statements for the next while, especially if MaddoxX makes good on a promise to release a "spreadsheet."

...Hence why any database storing confidential data should be encrypted, the users password can be used to encrypt/decrypt details such as there name, address, credit card details etc.

yeah, that is so completely and crazily ridiculous, mad nuts seriously. Especially odd because i have three kids in my class who have experienced identity theft. But yeah, that is real dumb, what is valve doing..

Only if it can be shown that the data was compromised through negligence or they did not take 'reasonable' measures to protect it.

i am not aware of any company which uses the method outlined in the HOPE talk... which is rather unfortunate for us :/
